The World-wide LHC Computing Grid (WLCG) celebrated 20 years of operations at an event at CERN in December. WLCG is the network of data centres based at universities and national laboratories around the world providing the four LHC experiments (ATLAS, ALICE, CMS and LHCb) with disk and tape storage for their data, and compute resources to run simulation, reconstruction and analysis.
At the event at CERN many of the key developers looked back at the early days of the WLCG's development, presented its current status, and looked forwards to the HL-LHC era and the impact of heterogeneous computing and artificial intelligence.
The four LHC experiments were represented by James Catmore (Oslo).
